Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday expressed grief over the demise of legendary playback singer Suman Kalyanpur, describing her songs as an integral part of the golden era of Indian music.
Kalyanpur passed away in Mumbai on Sunday due to age-related ailments. She was 89.
Paying tribute on social media, Sarma quoted her iconic song Na Tum Hamein Jaano, saying generations came to know and cherish the singer through her timeless melodies.
"I'm deeply saddened by her passing. Her songs were a cherished part of the golden era of Indian music, bringing joy and nostalgia to millions," the chief minister said.
He added that while an era had come to an end, her melodies would continue to live on in the hearts of music lovers.
Kalyanpur rose to prominence during the 1960s and 1970s and carved out a distinct identity for herself alongside legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar.

Some of her most memorable songs include Aajkal Tere Mere Pyar Ke Charche, Na Na Karte Pyar Tumhin Se, Tumne Pukara Aur Hum Chale Aaye and Na Tum Hamein Jaano, which remain popular among listeners decades after their release.
