Police have registered a case against a BJP councillor and two others for allegedly assaulting the chief officer of the Mahad Municipal Council inside his office in Maharashtra's Raigad district, officials said on Friday.
The accused have been identified as BJP councillor Suraj Bamne, along with Rakesh Patil and Sagar Surve.
According to police, the incident took place on Wednesday when Chief Officer Dhananjay Sadashiv Kolekar was at work in his office at the municipal council's administrative building. The three men allegedly entered the office to discuss issues related to a ward under the council's jurisdiction.
The discussion reportedly turned into an argument, which later escalated into an alleged physical attack on the officer.
Kolekar sustained injuries in the incident and was taken to Mahad Rural Hospital, where he underwent treatment and a medical examination, police said.
Based on the officer's complaint, Mahad City Police registered an FIR against the three accused under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
In his complaint, Kolekar alleged that the accused not only assaulted him but also abused and threatened him with serious consequences.

The incident triggered protests by employees of the Mahad Municipal Council, who demanded strict legal action against those responsible.
