C. Joseph Vijay on Thursday announced that women beneficiaries under the ‘Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai’ scheme will soon receive the May installment of Rs 1,000.

According to an official release, the amount will be directly credited to the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries under the welfare programme launched by the previous Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government.

The scheme, named after late DMK patriarch M. Karunanidhi, currently provides monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,000 to women beneficiaries across the state.

The release said the government requires additional time to restructure the scheme, but Vijay has directed officials to ensure that the May installment is disbursed without delay.
