Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Thursday announced a series of technology-driven administrative initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency in the judiciary and reducing the pendency of cases across courts.

Making the announcement at the outset of the day’s proceedings, the CJI said the judiciary was increasingly harnessing digital tools, including artificial intelligence, to streamline processes and improve coordination between courts.

“There is some good news. We are trying to harness AI for increasing operational efficiency and reducing case pendency,” Justice Kant said.

He said the Supreme Court has launched a digital partnership with several high courts, creating a unified platform that will automatically update the status of cases in line with orders passed by trial courts, high courts and the Supreme Court.

“We have launched a digital partnership with various high courts which will have a platform that will alter the status of cases as per orders from different courts and trial court orders,” the CJI said.

Under the new system, trial court orders and high court directions will be digitally uploaded and reflected across judicial levels, creating a comprehensive and real-time repository of case pendency at both high court and Supreme Court levels. The initiative is expected to reduce delays caused by manual updating of records and improve transparency and accountability in case management.

In another key reform, the CJI announced the launch of an integrated online payment system for administrative services of the Supreme Court. The system will facilitate digital payment of Advocate-on-Record (AoR) examination fees and charges for court facilities, including crèche services, reducing paperwork and in-person transactions.

Justice Kant also flagged a major security overhaul of the Supreme Court complex, with greater reliance on digital systems. As part of this effort, the Supreme Court has launched the Park Authorisation Record Keeper (PARK), a new mobile application designed to automate vehicle permissions and enhance security protocols.

“We are augmenting security by automating vehicle permission,” the CJI said, adding that applicants can now submit requests online and track their status through the app.

“This is critical, as the overall safety and security of lawyers and litigants is paramount. The app will cover both parking management and general security,” he added.

The initiatives form part of a broader push to modernise judicial administration and leverage technology to make the justice delivery system more efficient and citizen-friendly.
