West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday asserted that his government has adopted a policy of "zero tolerance" towards unrest, hooliganism and anti-social activities, warning that those attempting to disrupt law and order would face the strictest possible action.

Addressing a press conference organised by the state BJP to mark 12 years of the BJP-led government at the Centre, Adhikari said maintaining peace and public order remains one of his administration's foremost priorities.

"After we came to power, there have been certain incidents, and we tackled them firmly, sending out a clear message that there will be zero tolerance towards this kind of unrest, hooliganism and anti-social activities. We will not allow such things to continue," the chief minister said.

Emphasising his government's resolve, Adhikari said he was prepared to go to any extent necessary to curb such incidents.

"The strictest action will be taken against those involved in vandalism and taking the law into their own hands," he said.

The chief minister reiterated that ensuring peace and maintaining law and order were essential responsibilities of the government. Drawing a contrast with the previous Trinamool Congress (TMC) administration, he claimed that anti-social elements would not be allowed to disrupt normal life under his leadership.

According to Adhikari, the government's firm approach is intended to reassure citizens that acts of violence, vandalism and intimidation will not be tolerated, and that the rule of law will prevail across the state.
