Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has resigned.  He announced it, in his address to the people of the state, soon after the Supreme Court ordered he would have to face the floor test in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday.

The Court has refused to stay the Maharashtra Assembly floor test, scheduled for Thursday.

Speaking in Marathi, Udhav Thackarety said he has resigned from his seat as Member of the legislative council.

The Supreme Court order came as a major setback to the Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray camp of Shiv Sena and a sort of victory for the rebels led by Eknath Shinde who have since moved to Goa from Guwahati late evening.

Speaking to the media persons, Shinde said his camp reflects the ethos of “Shiv Sena as espoused by founder Balasaheb Thackeray.”

It’s generally believed Eknath Shinde will become the chief minister with BJP’s help though the BJP has not spoken about the political crisis in Maharashtra.

The Supreme Court’s order comes on a plea filed by Shiv Sena chief whip Sunil Prabhu challenging Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari's direction to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to prove his majority support on the floor of the House on June 30.

Supreme Court issued notice on Shiv Sena Chief Whip Sunil Prabhu's plea and said that tomorrow's floor test will be subject to the outcome of the present petition. in 2019, Uddhav T Uddhav Thackeray had broken the pre-poll alliance with the BJP to form the government with MVA with Cong & NCP.

He had approached the apex court against the Governor’s order of floor test to check claims of both the warring groups of the Shiv Sena of majority support.
