The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday warned that cold wave conditions are likely to persist over parts of north interior Karnataka during the next 24 hours.

According to the weather bulletin, minimum temperatures at a few locations across interior Karnataka have dropped between three and six degrees Celsius below normal. Foggy conditions were also reported at isolated places during the period.

The IMD noted that cold wave conditions were recorded in Vijayapura over the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, a depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal, located off the northeast coast of Sri Lanka on Saturday morning, is moving west-northwestward and is not expected to significantly affect Karnataka’s rainfall pattern.

The weather system has been moving at a speed of around 15 kmph over the last six hours and was centred at 8.30 am, the IMD said. It is likely to continue along the same trajectory and cross the north Sri Lanka coast between Trincomalee and Jaffna, near Mullaittivu, by the afternoon.

Largely dry weather is forecast to prevail across most parts of Karnataka in the coming days.

However, light rainfall may occur at isolated places in Tumakuru, Chikkaballapura, Kolar, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Ramanagara, Mandya, Mysuru, Chamarajanagara and Kodagu districts.
