The Delhi High Court on Tuesday directed the removal of objectionable social media content targeting Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary.
Choudhary, a National Conference leader, had filed a defamation suit seeking a permanent injunction against content on platforms including Facebook and YouTube, alleging that it portrayed him in a defamatory manner with sexual undertones.
Justice Amit Bansal, granting interim relief, observed that a prima facie case in favour of Choudhary has been made out. Choudhary’s counsel told the court that his image was misused in videos alongside a woman, and urged the court to order a take-down of the content.

The court noted that Choudhary has maintained a reputable public career and listed the matter for further proceedings in April. Earlier, the court had asked Choudhary to submit transcripts of the content to determine whether it was defamatory. The counsel stated that most of the objectionable content dates back two years, and many of the URLs are linked to media reports.
