Punjab Police on Wednesday confirmed that explosive material appears to have been used in the blast that took place outside the headquarters of the Border Security Force’s Punjab Frontier in Jalandhar.

Dhanpreet Kaur said preliminary findings from the investigation point to the use of explosives in the incident, adding that forensic and technical analysis is underway.

Speaking to reporters, the commissioner said forensic teams had collected explosive residue samples from the blast site, which have been sent to a laboratory for detailed examination.

“Initial findings indicate that some form of explosive substance was used. Samples have been collected and sent for forensic analysis,” she said, adding that investigators are examining surveillance footage and other technical evidence.

Kaur said the police have identified multiple leads in the case and are actively pursuing them. An FIR has been registered, and the investigation is progressing.

Meanwhile, Gaurav Yadav visited the blast location on Wednesday to review the situation. He also held discussions with senior BSF officials, including the inspector general of the frontier.

Punjab was shaken by two explosions near security installations on Tuesday night, triggering concern and political reactions across the state.

The first blast occurred around 8 pm near the BSF Punjab Frontier headquarters in Jalandhar, while another explosion was reported around 11 pm in Amritsar.

CCTV footage from the Jalandhar site reportedly captured the moment of the explosion, followed by smoke billowing from the area. Eyewitnesses said a loud sound was heard moments before panic spread in the vicinity.

The blast severely damaged a parked scooter, a traffic signal pole, and windowpanes of a nearby commercial establishment.

Police said the scooter belonged to Gurpreet Singh, who regularly delivers parcels in the area. Authorities said he is cooperating with investigators.

According to local residents, the scooter caught fire shortly after the explosion as Gurpreet was approaching it.

The incident has prompted heightened security and intensified investigations as officials work to establish the source of the explosives and those behind the attack.
