Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday announced a Rs 3,200 crore flood management mission to address chronic waterlogging in Kolhapur and Sangli districts.

Executed under the Maharashtra Resilience Development Programme (MRDP), the initiative aims to enhance rainwater storage and boost the carrying capacities of the Krishna and Panchganga rivers.

Fadnavis, in a post on X, said that the state government and the World Bank have together completed the preparation and process under the MRDP.

The Rs 3,200 crore mission marks a major step towards long-term flood resilience in Kolhapur, Sangli and Ichalkaranji by enhancing rainwater storage, improving the carrying capacity of the Krishna and Panchganga rivers, and strengthening stormwater drainage systems, he stated.

"Thankful to our Hon PM Narendra Modi Ji, Hon Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman ji, Department of Economic Affairs, GoI and the World Bank for the support and efforts in making this transformative initiative possible. Looking forward to the next steps of implementation of this project at a fast pace," Fadnavis wrote.
