Police in Uttar Pradesh's Balrampur district have registered a case against a man after a video purportedly showing him making abusive comments about Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during an altercation at a petrol pump surfaced on social media, officials said on Wednesday.

Additional Superintendent of Police Vishal Pandey said the police took cognisance of the viral video and promptly lodged an FIR against the accused.

He added that two separate teams have been constituted to trace and arrest the individual.

According to the police, the 41-second clip appears to have been recorded at a petrol station in the Nahar Balaganj area. The footage allegedly shows a man arriving on a motorcycle and getting into an argument with a petrol pump employee over an issue related to refuelling.

During the exchange, the man is alleged to have made objectionable remarks directed at the chief minister, officials said.

Police said the video was captured by a bystander and was later circulated widely on social media platforms.

The identity of the accused has since been established, and further legal proceedings are underway, they added.

The incident also drew reactions from local BJP leaders, some of whom demanded swift action and the immediate arrest of the accused.

Balrampur Municipal Council chairman Dhirendra Pratap Singh claimed that such episodes could adversely affect communal harmony in the district and expressed concern over the prevailing law and order situation.
