Full Election Commission bench on 3-day visit to poll-bound Assam from Feb 16

Guwahati

he full bench of the Election Commission of India (ECI), headed by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, will be on a three-day visit to Assam from February 16 to assess preparations for the forthcoming Assembly elections, officials said on Thursday.

Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi will accompany the CEC during the visit.

According to officials, the Commission will hold meetings on February 17 with representatives of political parties, senior civil and police authorities, district election officers and superintendents of police to review poll readiness.

The CEC is also scheduled to meet separately with the state’s chief secretary, home secretary, director general of police, chief electoral officer and other senior officials.

The Commission is expected to address the media on February 18, the final day of the visit.

Elections to the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly are anticipated to take place in March–April.
