Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Friday took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks in the Rajya Sabha, saying, “Jo uchit samjho wahi karo” (Do whatever you think is right).

Opposition MPs staged a protest at the Makar Dwar of Parliament, raising slogans of “Jo uchit samjho wahi karo” and holding placards bearing the words “trap deal,” as tensions continued between the ruling party and the Opposition.

Amid loud sloganeering and disruptions, proceedings in the Lok Sabha were adjourned for the day. The House is scheduled to reconvene on February 9 at 11:00 am.

The protest followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s sharp attack on the Congress in the Rajya Sabha a day earlier, during which he criticised the party and its leadership over a controversial “traitor” remark made against BJP MP Ravneet Singh Bittu.

Speaking during the debate in the Upper House, the Prime Minister referred to an incident involving Rahul Gandhi, alleging that the remark reflected the Congress party’s arrogance and amounted to an insult to the Sikh community.

“What happened yesterday — the Congress ‘Yuvraj’, with a ‘shaatir dimaag’, called a member of this House a traitor. His arrogance is at its peak. He did not use this word for others who left the Congress, but said it to this MP because he is a Sikh. This is an insult to Sikhs and the Gurus,” PM Modi said in the House.

The controversy stemmed from a verbal exchange near the Makar Dwar on Wednesday, when Rahul Gandhi referred to Ravneet Singh Bittu as a “traitor” after the latter switched from the Congress to the BJP ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Bittu declined to shake hands with Gandhi and responded by calling him a “Desh ke dushman.”
