Tourism operators from Kashmir are wooing tourists from Maharashtra following a slump in the sector in the wake of last year's Pahalgam terrorist attack, in which 22 tourists and one local operator were assassinated by Pakistani terrorists at the opening of the tourism season.
The Tourist Trade Interest Guild (TTG), an advocacy group focused on reviving, promoting, and protecting the region's tourism and hospitality sectors, organised a special program in Pune recently to attract tourists to J&K.
At least 74 tour and travel operators from Pune's tourism industry participated in the event titled "Tourism Outlook and Future Kashmir."
The TTIG officials said that they were prepared to welcome more tourists from Maharashtra, especially Pune, and assured them of a warm and heartfelt welcome.
The TTIG works to support local stakeholders, including hoteliers and transporters, by engaging with government authorities for policy support and security measures.

Zahoor Ahmed Karnai, Chairman, and Bashir Ahmed Karnai, Vice President of the TTIG, spoke of new opportunities, policies, and the bright future of Kashmir tourism, changing policies, and the immense potential of the sector in the future.
The highlight of the event was the direct interaction between experienced and respected representatives of the tourism sector from Kashmir and Pune businesses.
The TTIG officials threw light in detail on the current status of the tourism sector in Kashmir, the positive changes that have happened in recent years and the plans.
During the program, a special discussion was held on the new tourism policies implemented in Kashmir. Speakers explained that the government and tourism organisations are working together to make Kashmir a safe, modern, and tourist-friendly destination.
Tourist safety is being given top priority, with robust security measures, improved travel management, and the development of modern amenities. Significant improvements have also been made in connectivity, the hotel industry, and transport infrastructure.
The representatives also informed that apart from the traditional tourist destinations, new tourism circuits are being developed in Kashmir to provide varied experiences to the tourists while bringing the benefits of tourism to remote areas.
Adventure tourism is being promoted with activities such as trekking, skiing, river rafting, and paragliding. Furthermore, Kashmir has immense potential in honeymoon tourism, religious tourism, and cultural tourism, which are being systematically developed.
Addressing the event, TTIG Chairman Zahoor Ahmad Karnai spoke passionately. He said that Kashmir is not just a tourist destination, but a precious part of India's cultural and natural heritage. "Kashmir belongs to all of us.
