Severe heatwave conditions have intensified across western parts of Madhya Pradesh, prompting the India Meteorological Department to issue an orange alert for Indore, Ujjain and several adjoining districts.
Weather officials said most regions of the state, except the south-eastern belt, are likely to record maximum temperatures between 42 and 45 degrees Celsius over the next one to two days.
Residents across western Madhya Pradesh are finding little relief even during mornings and nights, with minimum temperatures staying unusually high and roads in major cities appearing largely deserted during peak afternoon hours.
According to IMD data, Indore recorded a minimum temperature of 30 degrees Celsius on Thursday, which was 5.7 degrees above normal, marking the second consecutive day the city’s night temperature touched the 30-degree mark.
Meteorologist H.S. Pandey said a large part of western Madhya Pradesh remains under severe heat stress, with the orange alert in force for the next 24 hours in Indore, Ratlam, Ujjain, Dhar, Dewas and Guna districts.
He advised residents in the affected areas to remain cautious, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses.
Other cities in the state also recorded elevated night temperatures, with Jabalpur logging 29.5 degrees Celsius, Bhopal 28.9 degrees Celsius, and Ratlam 28.6 degrees Celsius.
