The Madani Charitable Trust in Sangli, Maharashtra, distributed fruit-laden handcarts to 50 families, who otherwise hawked their stuff in baskets or displayed it for sale by simply spreading it out on the mats in a marketplace.
Two other Muslim organisations in the area, Rehbar Foundation and Safa Baitulmal, also contributed to this initiative.
Sufian Pathan, General Secretary of Madani Charitable Trust, said, "Our dream was to help the poor and needy families of Sangli district. We are providing handcarts and essential materials to 50 needy families. Madani Charitable Trust will continue its social work without any discrimination of religion or caste."
After receiving the frit-laden cart for sale at a function in the city, the faces of people were lit with confidence.
Savita Subhash Jadhav, a beneficiary from Samdoli, said, "I am in the business of selling vegetables. The Madani Trust provided me with a handcart, fruits and a weighing scale. I am grateful to them for their support in our livelihood."
