Customs officials at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) have seized narcotics worth nearly Rs 13 crore from an Indian woman passenger arriving from Bangkok, officials said on Friday.
According to an official statement, a detailed examination of the passenger’s baggage led to the recovery of 13 polythene packets containing a green-coloured narcotic substance, suspected to be ganja or marijuana, concealed inside one brown and one grey trolley bag.
The seized substance weighed 12.92 kilograms and tested positive for ganja/marijuana during preliminary diagnostic testing, the officials said.
The seizure was made on February 3 following passenger profiling. The woman had arrived in Delhi via Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and was intercepted at the Green Channel for X-ray screening and further inspection of her luggage.
Officials stated that the passenger was found to have violated provisions of Section 8 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, attracting penal action under the law.
The woman was arrested on February 4, and the suspected narcotics, along with the packing material, were seized under the NDPS Act.

Further investigation into the source and intended destination of the contraband is underway, officials added.
