The ‘Param Vir Sagar Yatra’, during which National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets collected soil from 21 uninhabited islands in the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago named after Param Vir Chakra (PVC) awardees, concluded in New Delhi on Tuesday, officials said.

As part of the initiative, the cadets collected soil from the islands in a ‘mati kalash’, which was later handed over to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The expedition commenced on January 6, when 20 NCC volunteers set sail aboard a naval ship to visit the islands and collect the soil. The yatra culminated with a grand ceremony in the national capital on February 4.

The ‘mati kalash’ was formally presented to the Prime Minister during an NCC rally on January 28.

“Throughout the yatra, the NCC cadets displayed exemplary discipline, dedication and a strong commitment to national service,” an NCC official said.

The official added that the Param Vir Sagar Yatra was the first large-scale initiative of its kind undertaken by the NCC in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, marking a historic milestone and fostering a deep sense of patriotism among the island residents.
