Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday conveyed his deep condolences to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney following a deadly mass shooting in the Tumbler Ridge area of British Columbia that claimed 10 lives, including that of the suspect.

In a message posted on X, Modi expressed solidarity with the people of Canada during what he described as a time of immense sorrow. He offered his sympathies to the families of the victims and wished a swift recovery to those injured in the incident.

“Deeply shocked by the horrific shooting in Canada. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones and wish a speedy recovery to the injured. India stands in solidarity with the people of Canada in this moment of profound grief,” the Prime Minister said.

According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), nine people were killed by the suspect, who was later found dead from what investigators believe to be a self-inflicted injury.

Police said the shooting occurred on Tuesday afternoon at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School. Six victims were found dead at the school premises, while another died while being transported to hospital.

During the investigation, authorities also identified a second location linked to the incident, where two more victims were discovered dead, the RCMP said.

Two people suffering from serious or life-threatening injuries were airlifted to hospital, while 25 others were receiving treatment at a local medical facility for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney described the incident as devastating, calling it one of the country’s most tragic episodes in recent years.
