Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to chair a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) at 11:30 am on Saturday in the national capital to review steps taken by various ministries and departments.
He will also preside over meetings of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) and the Union Cabinet at Parliament.
Earlier on April 1, the Prime Minister had chaired a special CCS meeting to assess the implications of the ongoing West Asia conflict and discuss further measures.
During that meeting, the Cabinet Secretary briefed members on efforts to ensure uninterrupted supply of petroleum products, including LNG and LPG, as well as adequate power availability, according to an official statement.
The Prime Minister reviewed the availability of essential commodities for citizens, including fertilisers, and examined steps to ensure sufficient supply for both Kharif and Rabi cropping seasons.
The situation in the region escalated following a joint US-Israel military strike on Iran on February 28, which reportedly led to the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei along with other senior officials, triggering a strong response from Tehran.
The government also assessed the potential short-, medium-, and long-term impact of the conflict on the global economy and India, while discussing both immediate and long-term countermeasures.
A detailed review was conducted on the availability of essential resources such as food, fuel, and energy to ensure stability for the public.
The impact on the agricultural sector, particularly fertiliser requirements for the upcoming Kharif season, was also examined. Officials noted that existing stockpiles and recent measures would help maintain supply and food security, while alternative sourcing options were also explored.
