Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday met Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in the national capital and extended an invitation to attend the foundation-stone-laying ceremony of the proposed Gandhi Sarovar Project, scheduled to be held in the last week of February.
The project is planned at the confluence of the Easa and Musi rivers. Sharing details of the meeting on social media platform X, the Chief Minister said he apprised the Defence Minister of the historical importance of the site, recalling that the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi were immersed at the same location in February 1948.
“Today, I met the Hon’ble Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh in Delhi and invited him to the foundation stone laying ceremony of the ‘Gandhi Sarovar Project’ at the confluence of the Easa and Musi rivers, planned for the last week of February. I explained the historical significance of this area and reminded him that Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes were immersed here in February 1948,” Reddy said in his post on X.
The Chief Minister further informed the Union Minister that the Gandhi Sarovar Project is being undertaken as part of the Musi River Rejuvenation Project initiated by the Telangana government.
Reddy added that the Bapu Ghat at the site would be developed into a world-class hub focusing on education, culture, spirituality and environmental awareness in the future.
“I also informed Shri Rajnath Singh that the Gandhi Sarovar Project is part of the Musi River Rejuvenation initiative taken up by the people’s government. In the coming days, the Bapu Ghat in this area will be transformed into a global centre for education, culture, spirituality and environmental consciousness,” the Chief Minister said.

Several Telangana Congress Members of Parliament were present during the meeting.
