A neighbour of the victim in the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder case approached the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday, alleging that his house was vandalised after the West Bengal Assembly election results were announced.

The petitioner, identified as Sanjib Mukherjee, claimed through his lawyer that he was a prosecution witness in the high-profile case and sought urgent protection from the court.

However, Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya declined an immediate hearing and directed the petitioner to formally file the plea and serve notices to the concerned parties. The judge said the matter would be heard according to the regular listing procedure.

During the mentioning of the case, Mukherjee’s counsel informed the court that his client had testified in the rape-murder case in which convict Sanjay Roy was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Sealdah sessions court.
