Seychelles President Patrick Herminie arrived here on Thursday on his maiden visit to India, coinciding with the celebration of 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
He was accorded a warm reception at the airport by Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Welfare Minister M Mathivendhan, Chennai Mayor R Priya and senior officials.
During his five-day visit, President Herminie will meet Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi here and Maharashtra Governor Acharya Devrat in Mumbai.
According to a release from the External Affairs Ministry, the Seychelles President will also meet President Droupadi Murmu and hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest.
The release said Seychelles is a key maritime neighbour of India in the Indian Ocean Region and holds a special place in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR and commitment to the Global South.

The visit is expected to provide further momentum to wide-ranging cooperation and strengthen robust people-to-people ties between the two countries.
