Senior Suvendu Adhikari leader and Leader of Opposition in West Bengal, on Wednesday said he would give up one of the two Assembly constituencies he won in the recently concluded state elections within the next 10 days.

Adhikari, who registered victories from both Bhabanipur and Nandigram, said the final decision on which seat he would retain would be taken by the central leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

He said he remains committed to the people of both constituencies and assured voters that their trust and expectations would continue to be respected regardless of the party’s decision.

Adhikari made the remarks while addressing party workers and supporters in Nandigram in Purba Medinipur district.

He also appealed to BJP workers to avoid immediate victory processions and instead maintain peace and discipline until the formation of the new government in the state.

Referring to what he described as years of political violence against BJP supporters during the rule of the All India Trinamool Congress, Adhikari said those sacrifices would not be forgotten.

Earlier in the day, he offered prayers at a local Hanuman temple in Nandigram and paid tribute to party workers who lost their lives in political clashes.

Expressing confidence about the party’s future in the state, Adhikari said the BJP aims to build a long-term political presence in West Bengal and further expand its support base in coming elections.
