Tamil Nadu Minister Aadhav Arjun on Thursday said Chief Minister Joseph Vijay has directed all MLAs to identify pressing issues in their constituencies and conduct review meetings with officials to assess local conditions and address public grievances on priority.
Addressing a press conference in Chennai, Arjun said the Chief Minister had instructed elected representatives to focus first on resolving people’s immediate concerns rather than carrying out post-election thanksgiving visits.
“Chief Minister Joseph Vijay had instructed all MLAs to identify issues in their respective constituencies and conduct review meetings with officials to assess the ground situation and resolve public grievances,” he said.
He added that officials from departments including water supply, police, TASMAC and other civic agencies participated in the review meetings to understand local issues and coordinate solutions.
Referring to the Villivakkam constituency, Arjun said concerns had been raised over increasing drug-related activities in certain areas. He noted that issues linked to Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited (TASMAC) outlets would be addressed on priority.
“Drug-related activities had increased in parts of the Villivakkam constituency,” he said, adding that four TASMAC outlets had already been identified for closure following consultations.
The minister also stressed the need for better monitoring and transparency in grievance handling, stating that complaints received by police and government departments should be properly documented through CCTV surveillance and digital systems.
Arjun further said that no functionary or senior leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) should be involved in corruption, tender-related dealings or influencing government contracts, warning that strict action would be taken against irregularities.
He reiterated that women’s safety and the eradication of ganja sales and illegal liquor trade remain among the government’s key priorities.
Responding to criticism from Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin regarding the government not meeting voters after the election victory, Arjun said the administration was currently prioritising grievance redressal and would soon interact with the public to express gratitude.
