Seven Indian Army personnel are reported to have been trapped after an avalanche hit a patrol in the high-altitude area of Kameng Sector in Arunachal Pradesh, the Indian Army said on Monday.

Search and rescue operations are currently underway. Specialised teams have been airlifted to assist in rescue operations, it said.

The armymen have been stuck there since Sunday.

The area has been witnessing inclement weather with heavy snowfall for the last few days, the army said.

In Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, the Army’s Eastern Command handles the 1,346-km-long Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.

This command has three corps -- 33 Corps (Sikkim), 4 Corps (Kameng Sector), and 3 Corps (Rest of Arunachal Pradesh) to handle the LAC.
