Manik Saha, Chief Minister of Tripura, on Thursday called on voters to support the BJP in the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council elections, asserting that the party is best positioned to drive development in tribal regions.
Speaking at a rally in Gomati district, Saha criticised parties such as the CPI(M), Congress, and the Tipra Motha Party, claiming that despite previously governing the tribal council, they failed to significantly improve the lives of indigenous communities.
He alleged that funds allocated for development were not properly utilised by the current council leadership. According to him, the state government had approved 28 development projects worth Rs 200 crore over the past three years, of which more than Rs 100 crore has already been released, but utilisation details have not been submitted.
The chief minister also pointed to delays in setting up a proposed hospital at Khumulwng, despite funds being sanctioned, and accused the council of mismanaging resources.
Highlighting welfare initiatives, Saha said a substantial portion of the state budget is being directed towards tribal development. He also noted an increase in the number of Eklavya Model Residential Schools since 2018, with more institutions planned.
