Jabalpur
Samarth Singh, the husband of Twisha Sharma, who was found dead at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12, appeared before a court in Jabalpur on Friday after remaining untraceable in connection with the case.
His counsel, Advocate Saurabh Sunder, stated that Singh had reached the Jabalpur court with the intention of surrendering and that an application in this regard was being moved before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM).
However, Advocate Anurag Srivastava, representing Twisha Sharma’s family, argued that the accused should surrender either before the investigating officer or the trial court in Bhopal, where the case is being handled.
“The trial court and the investigating officer are both in Bhopal. If he wants to surrender, he should do so before the competent court or the investigating agency there,” Srivastava said.
Earlier on Friday, the Madhya Pradesh High Court issued notices on petitions filed by both the state government and Twisha Sharma’s father challenging the anticipatory bail granted to Giribala Singh, the deceased woman’s mother-in-law, by a lower court.
Advocate Ankur Pandey, appearing for Twisha Sharma’s family, said the High Court has scheduled the next hearing for May 25.
He explained that four separate petitions were filed before the High Court. Two of them challenged the anticipatory bail granted to Giribala Singh. The court has now sought responses in the matter and will hear arguments regarding the alleged legal flaws in the bail order during the next hearing.
Pandey also informed that the High Court has approved a second postmortem examination of Twisha Sharma’s body.
According to him, after hearing submissions from both the state government and the victim’s family, the court directed the Director of AIIMS Delhi to constitute a team of medical experts to travel to AIIMS Bhopal and conduct the second autopsy.
The family had moved the High Court after a lower court rejected their plea seeking another postmortem examination.
Pandey stated that although there was an initial proposal to shift the body to Delhi, it was later decided that a medical team from AIIMS Delhi would instead travel to Bhopal to carry out the procedure. Twisha Sharma’s body is currently being kept at AIIMS Bhopal.
The counsel further said that Samarth Singh had withdrawn his anticipatory bail plea from the High Court. According to Pandey, the accused informed the court through his lawyer that he would surrender either before the investigating agency or before a competent court.
Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh government has recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the case and has formally granted consent for the agency to take over the investigation.

Twisha Sharma, a resident of Noida, had married Bhopal-based Samarth Singh in December 2025. Following her death on May 12, her family accused her husband and in-laws of subjecting her to mental harassment and dowry-related abuse. A police case was subsequently registered, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to probe the allegations.
