Uttarakhand CM announces ex-gratia after Tehri road accident kills 8

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday announced an ex-gratia of ₹3 lakh each for the families of those killed in a tragic road accident in Tehri Garhwal district.

The Chief Minister also approved financial assistance of ₹50,000 for those seriously injured, according to the Chief Minister’s Office.

The accident occurred on Thursday when a vehicle carrying 11 passengers lost control and plunged nearly 300 metres into a gorge near Nail on the Chamba–Koti road in the Chamba block of Tehri Garhwal.

Officials said eight people died in the incident, while two others sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment at the District Hospital in Baurari. Their condition is reported to be stable.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Alkesh Naudiyal confirmed the casualties and said post-mortem examinations are underway.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives and announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the next of kin of the deceased, and ₹50,000 for the injured.

“The loss of lives in the accident in Tehri Garhwal is saddening. My condolences to the bereaved families. I wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement.
