While India’s premier first-class cricket Ranji trophy tournament took off to a startling start this week, on Friday a bit of history was created when Bihar’s Sakibul Gani scored a triple-century against Mizrom at Kolkata's Jadavpur University Cricket Ground on Friday.
Gani’s scored the triple century score with just 387 deliveries and he also hit 56 fours.
Gani thus became the first cricketer in history to score a triple century on his first-class debut. He broke the record of Madhya Pradesh’s Ajay Rohera for the highest score in first-class debut. Rohera had scored an unbeaten knock of 267 against Hyderabad in 2019.
Already U-19 World-Cup winning captain Yash Dhull has scored a century on debut for Delhi while Ajinkya Rahane also made a three-figure knock for Mumbai against Saurashtra at Ahmedabad on Thursday.
The 22-year old Saakibul Gani hit 2 sixes and 56 boundaries for his 341 which came in just 405 balls in the first innings of Bihar. Gani becomes the first batter in the history of world cricket to hit a triple hundred on their first-class debut. Gani also mopped a 538-run stand for the 4th wicket with Babul Kumar. The latter also hit a double hundred for Bihar. After the Bihar team suffered early losses, Gani and Babul joined hands to make a high score of 609.
Gani, who hails from Motihari, had already played 14 List A matches, scoring 377 runs, including a hundred and 11 T20Is, scoring 192 runs, including a fifty for Bihar.
Born on September 2, 1999, in Motihari, Shakib Al Ghani had earlier played in 14 List-A and 11 T20 matches. In List A matches, he has so far scored 337 runs at an average of 31.41, including a century and a half. He also has 192 runs at an average of 27.42 in T20 matches.
