Indian MMA fighter Sangram Singh created history by becoming the first Indian to secure a mixed martial arts victory in Argentina, defeating France’s Florian Coudier in a one-sided bout.

The contest, held at the Tigre Sports Club stadium in Buenos Aires, ended swiftly as Singh overpowered his opponent in just one minute and 45 seconds. The win also marked his third consecutive MMA victory, following earlier triumphs in Tbilisi and Amsterdam.

A double Commonwealth heavyweight champion, Singh relied heavily on his wrestling background to dominate the fight. Despite facing an opponent 16 years younger, he controlled the bout with composure and precision.

Speaking after the victory, Singh said the result was a reflection of his mindset rather than just the outcome. He emphasised that learning remains as important as winning and reiterated his belief that passion transcends age. He also described the achievement as the fulfilment of a long-held dream.

Singh credited his coach Bhupesh, who has trained him for over two decades, for playing a crucial role in his preparation. He spoke about the intense discipline leading up to the fight, including rigorous training sessions and strict control over diet and hydration.

Recounting the bout, Singh said his opponent began strongly, attempting to counter with quick strikes and kicks. However, the Indian fighter capitalised on his wrestling expertise by catching a kick, taking Coudier down, and transitioning into a submission hold. The French fighter eventually tapped out after repeated intervention from the referee.

Singh also expressed surprise at the strong support he received from the crowd, noting that the cheers from the packed stadium added to the experience.
