A senior official of Russia’s military intelligence was injured after being shot in Moscow on Friday, authorities said.
Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev, the first deputy head of Russia’s military intelligence agency, was fired upon multiple times by an unidentified attacker, according to Investigative Committee spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko.

She said Alekseyev was rushed to hospital and is receiving treatment. No details were provided on the motive behind the attack or the identity of the assailant. Alekseyev has held the post of first deputy chief of military intelligence since 2011.
