Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday criticised Israel for carrying out fresh strikes in Lebanon despite a two-week ceasefire aimed at halting hostilities in West Asia, saying the actions breach the agreement and risk destabilising the region.
In a post on X, Pezeshkian termed Israel’s military activity in Lebanon a clear violation of the truce and said such conduct reflects a lack of sincerity and commitment to ongoing or future agreements.
He warned that continued attacks could derail diplomatic efforts to bring a lasting end to the conflict, adding that Iran may respond strongly if the situation escalates further.
The Iranian President reiterated that repeated Israeli actions against Lebanon amount to a serious violation of the ceasefire framework. He asserted that such moves undermine negotiations and signal non-compliance, while also reaffirming Iran’s support for Lebanon.
These developments come at a time when the already fragile ceasefire understanding between the United States and Iran remains uncertain, with Tehran maintaining that the agreement includes a halt to Israeli operations in Lebanon.
However, both the United States and Israel have stated that the ceasefire does not apply to Hezbollah targets, creating further complications in diplomatic negotiations and raising concerns about a possible breakdown of the truce.
