Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for gifting her “Melody” toffees during his visit to Italy, reviving the popular “Melodi” social media trend linked to the two leaders.

Meloni shared a video on social media in which she is seen showing the gift and saying, “Prime Minister Modi brought as a gift, a very, very good toffee -- Melody.”

The caption accompanying the video read, “Thank you for the gift.”

In the clip uploaded on Wednesday, Modi was also seen laughing as Meloni playfully referred to the famous “Melody” toffee, drawing a humorous connection to the widely used “Melodi” hashtag.

The term “Melodi” — a combination of Modi and Meloni’s names — first gained popularity during the COP28 summit in Dubai in 2023, when Meloni shared a picture with Modi on social media captioned, “Good friends at COP28,” along with the hashtag “Melodi.” The phrase later went viral online following several warm interactions between the two leaders at international events.

Modi arrived in Rome on Tuesday as part of the final leg of his five-nation tour covering the United Arab Emirates, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy from May 15 to 20.

The visit to Italy took place at Meloni’s invitation and focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in sectors such as trade, defence, clean energy and technology.
