Dr Syed Mubin Zehra, a distinguished historian, celebrated columnist, acclaimed author, and academician, represents a rare blend of intellectual rigour, social commitment, and fearless leadership.
An Associate Professor of history at Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College, Delhi, Dr Zehra has been shaping young minds for more than 15 years. Her classrooms are known not just for historical discourse but for thought-provoking conversations that connect the past with the realities of the present. Her students often describe her lectures as journeys—where history breathes, questions matter, and silence is never an option.
“I always dreamed and wanted to do this and realised this dream as it's the best profession. As my mother told me, if you teach, you will be laying the foundation for many decades to come, and teaching is the noblest, most socially contributing, and soul-satisfying occupation. You teach and also learn as you progress; it's the most heartening job as a scholar, too. It's the best national, global and humanitarian service you can do," Dr Zehra said.

An alumna of the University of Mumbai and Jawaharlal Nehru University, Dr Zehra’s academic foundation was built in two of India’s most respected institutions. Yet her intellectual pursuits never remained confined within national boundaries. Twice awarded the prestigious International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) fellowship by the U.S. State Department, she has represented Indian academia on global platforms, undertaking academic and professional assignments in the United States and South Korea.
These international engagements enriched her scholarship while strengthening her belief in cross-cultural dialogue and global cooperation.
But Dr Zehra’s contribution extends far beyond lecture halls and research seminars.

She has emerged as one of the strongest voices on gender equality, women’s rights, and the fight against violent extremism. Her keynote addresses on gender sensitisation and the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) have been sought by government institutions, educational bodies, and social organisations across the country.
Her words carry both scholarly depth and moral conviction, qualities that have made her a respected voice in conversations that shape public policy and social consciousness.
Her commitment to public service is reflected in her involvement with key national institutions. She serves as a member of the Religion and Cultural Panel of the National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language, contributing to the preservation and promotion of India’s rich linguistic and cultural heritage. Earlier, she served on the Internal Complaints Committee of the organisation, working to strengthen institutional accountability and workplace dignity.

Yet perhaps what defines Dr Syed Mubin Zehra most is not the titles she holds, the awards she has received, or the institutions she serves. It is her unwavering belief in India’s timeless philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—the world as one family. In an era often marked by division and discord, she continues to teach, write, and speak with a vision rooted in humanity, equality, and shared destiny.
