Seyyed Abbas Araghchi on Thursday urged BRICS nations and the wider international community to unequivocally condemn what he described as violations of international law by the United States and Israel amid the escalating conflict in West Asia.

Addressing the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi, Araghchi said Iran views BRICS as a symbol of an emerging global order in which countries of the Global South are increasingly shaping the future of international politics.

He said the grouping had evolved from an ambitious idea into a tangible geopolitical force, though one that remains vulnerable amid what he described as resistance from declining global powers.

Araghchi portrayed Iran’s confrontation with Western powers as part of a broader struggle against what he called Western dominance, arguing that Tehran’s actions were linked to the interests of BRICS members and the wider Global South.

While thanking BRICS countries for their support and solidarity, he urged member states to intensify efforts against what he termed a culture of impunity associated with Washington.

The Iranian minister said many countries represented in BRICS had themselves experienced coercive pressure and political intimidation from the United States.

He also accused Western nations of enabling violations of sovereignty and supporting violence across Asia, Africa and Latin America, and called for collective action to uphold the principles of the United Nations Charter.

Araghchi urged BRICS members to oppose the politicisation of international institutions, take practical steps to prevent further escalation, and work toward ending impunity for violations of international law.

He added that BRICS has the potential to emerge as a central pillar of a more balanced and equitable international order.

The two-day BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, being hosted by India on May 14–15, is focused on strengthening coordination among member states on global economic governance, development priorities and geopolitical challenges.
