US President Donald Trump on Friday signalled that the current ceasefire with Iran may not be extended, raising the possibility of renewed military action if both sides fail to reach an agreement to end ongoing tensions in West Asia.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said the decision on extending the truce would depend on progress in negotiations before the deadline.
He also made it clear that the US naval blockade targeting Iranian ports will remain in place regardless of whether the ceasefire continues.
“Maybe I won’t extend it. The blockade will stay, but we may have to resume bombing,” Trump said while responding to questions on the future of the truce, which is scheduled to end on April 22.
His remarks indicate a tougher stance from Washington, suggesting that while economic and naval pressure will continue, the pause in military operations is uncertain.
Meanwhile, another round of talks between US and Iranian officials is expected to be held in Islamabad on Monday, according to media reports citing Iranian sources.
Delegations from both countries are likely to arrive in the Pakistani capital on Sunday as part of efforts to revive dialogue after previous negotiations failed to produce a breakthrough.

The earlier round of discussions, held on April 11–12 and mediated by Pakistan, marked the first direct high-level engagement between the US and Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, though it ended without a concrete outcome.
