396 gm of gold concealed in chocolate packets seized at IGI Airport

New Delhi

Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International Airport have seized 396 grams of smuggled gold concealed inside chocolate packets from two passengers who arrived from Riyadh, officials said on Thursday.

According to an official statement, the passengers were intercepted at the green channel on the basis of spot profiling by customs officers.

During the screening process, the passengers’ baggage was sent for X-ray examination, where officials detected suspicious objects hidden inside chocolate packets.

The packets were then subjected to detailed inspection on suspicion of gold concealment in dust form.

Customs authorities recovered a total of 396 grams of gold with 999.9 purity concealed inside the chocolates. The recovered quantities included separate lots weighing 200 grams and 196 grams.

The seized gold has been confiscated under provisions of the Customs Act, 1962, and both passengers have been booked in connection with the smuggling attempt, the statement added.
