Jamia Millia Islamia marked the beginning of its glorious 105th Foundation Day in a deeply spiritual atmosphere with a soulful “Mehfil-e-Qira’at-o-Na’at Khwani” and the Prof. Mohammad Mujeeb Memorial Lecture.
The highlight of the event was the Prof. Mohammad Mujeeb Memorial Lecture, delivered by Prof. Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz on the topic “The Qur’an and the Universe.”
In his thought-provoking address, Prof. Parvaiz said, “The Qur’an is not merely for recitation, but for reflection and action. True success lies in embodying its message in our collective lives.” The grand celebration was held on October 29 at the university’s historic Dr. M.A. Ansari Auditorium.
In his remarks, Maulana Mufaddal Shakir said Jamia was not established merely as an educational institution but as a movement of thought, a symbol of knowledge, morality, and social reform.
The event was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mazhar Asif, with Registrar Prof. Mohammad Mehtab Alam Rizvi, Dean, Students’ Welfare Prof. Neelofar Afzal, senior academics, faculty members, and a large number of students in attendance.
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an by Qari Hudaifa Badri, whose melodious and heartfelt rendering filled the auditorium with spiritual serenity and divinity.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mazhar Asif then welcomed the distinguished guests, including Maulana Mufaddal Shakir, Maulana Shabbir Hussain Bhupalwala (representative of Amir-e-Jamia Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin), and Prof. Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz, noted scholar and former Vice-Chancellor of Maulana Azad National Urdu University.
When Jamia’s iconic university song was sung with passion and enthusiasm, it infused the auditorium with renewed energy, rekindling the spirit of unity and pride in the university’s illustrious legacy.
This was followed by soulful Na’at recitations by Sayyar Shabbir Wani and Mohammad Adil, students of M.A. Arabic, along with guest reciters Qari Burhanuddin Badri and Hudaifa Badri. Their performances deeply moved the audience.
Maulana Shabbir Hussain Bhupalwala read out a message from Amir-e-Jamia Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, which stated: “Jamia was built on the foundations of sacrifice, honesty, and sincerity, values that continue to make it great even today.”
The event was skillfully conducted by Prof. Habibullah Khan, Director of the Zakir Husain Institute, whose eloquent and scholarly presentation added to the dignity of the occasion.
In his presidential address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mazhar Asif remarked, “Jamia Millia Islamia has always stood as a beacon of education, culture, and service to humanity. Today’s celebration beautifully reflected these ideals, showcasing a remarkable confluence of spirituality and intellect.”
Delivering the vote of thanks, Prof. Neelofar Afzal, Dean of Students’ Welfare, said that such events not only nurture the moral and spiritual development of students but also strengthen the holistic academic tradition of Jamia.
