Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has begun shooting for Kalki 2 in Hyderabad and shared behind-the-scenes photographs with Tamil cinema icon Kamal Haasan, marking their first collaboration in nearly four decades.
In a post on his official blog, Bachchan said the project reunites him with Haasan after 1985’s Geraftaar.
“Meeting up with the great Kamal Haasan… we shall be working together after ages,” the 83-year-old actor wrote.
The images show the two veterans sharing a warm hug on set, with Bachchan seen in the look of Ashwatthama, the character he portrayed in the first instalment, Kalki 2898 AD.
“‘Kalki 2’ has begun… and I shall ever cherish the love and affection of the anticipated Sunday presence,” he added, referring to his weekly interaction with fans.
Inspired by Hindu scriptures, Kalki 2898 AD was released in June 2024 as the first chapter of the planned Kalki Cinematic Universe. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, the film followed a mission to protect a woman carrying Lord Vishnu’s tenth and final avatar, Kalki, from the tyrannical ruler Yaskin.
The film starred Prabhas as Bhairava/Karna, Bachchan as Ashwatthama, Haasan as Supreme Yaskin, and Deepika Padukone as Sumathi (SUM-80). It went on to earn over Rs 1,000 crore at the global box office.
