Before Dr Shahida Nagma, a renowned Delhi-based obstetrician-gynaecologist and IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation) expert, became a source of joy for countless couples who have become parents through her interventions, she was a big inspiration for her family, especially the younger generation back in Dhanbad, Jharkhand.

Seeing her carry forward the legacy of her maternal grandfather, Dr Noorul Absar, who was from the village Arki, Jahanabad, Bihar, and worked in London and became a doctor, many young women in her extended family felt encouraged to venture far from their hometowns to pursue professional courses and become engineers, doctors, and fine artists.

Shahida was raised by her teacher mother Shabana Qamar and father, Khurshid Ahmed, an officer in the Army. After retirement from the Army, her father became a Bank Manager. Her younger brother is also a doctor practising in Meerut, UP.

Shahida Nagma received her early education at a convent school and completed her senior secondary at Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan, Delhi.

Her journey in the medical field began with her MBBS degree and internship at the Army College of Medical Sciences (ACMS), Delhi Cantt and post-graduation (MS) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the prestigious Vardhman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC) and Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi.

While working as a Senior Resident at Safdarjung Hospital for three years, she gained expertise in handling complex surgical cases. She then completed a fellowship in Reproductive Medicine (IVF) under the guidance of the renowned Dr Abha Majumdar at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi.

She remembers her grandfather—affectionately known within the family as 'Doctor Nana'— a renowned paediatrician in the United Kingdom, visiting home. Whenever he visited India, Dr Shahida would sit with him and listen to his experiences.

Dr Shahida provides her services at 'Radiance Lifeline and Fertility Clinic' on Chhatarpur Main Road and is also associated with 'Cloudnine Hospital' (East of Kailash, New Delhi). Previously, she worked with Birla Fertility & IVF.

Addressing couples struggling with infertility, Dr Shahida emphasises that the journey to parenthood is unique for everyone. Instead of blaming each other or judging themselves based on societal taunts, couples should seek medical advice at the right time.
