Renowned Malayalam cinema personality Sreenivasan, known for his work as an actor, director and screenwriter, passed away at a private hospital near Kochi on Saturday morning, according to sources from the film industry. He was 69.
Sreenivasan was admitted to a hospital in Tripunithura on Friday night after his health condition worsened. Despite medical efforts, he breathed his last on Saturday morning.
A native of Kannur district, Sreenivasan had been residing in Kochi for several years. Over a career spanning nearly five decades, he made an indelible mark on Malayalam cinema through his versatility and sharp social commentary.
Apart from acting, Sreenivasan excelled as a director, scriptwriter, producer and dubbing artist. He featured in more than 200 films and made his acting debut with Manimuzhakkam in 1976. His scripts and performances were widely appreciated for blending humour with realism and social critique.

He is survived by his two sons, Vineeth Sreenivasan and Dhyan Sreenivasan, both of whom have established themselves as actors in the Malayalam film industry.
