The third season of The Night Manager will arrive sooner than its second instalment, which came nearly a decade after the first, creator and executive producer David Farr has said.
Speaking during Deadline’s Contenders TV panel for the show’s second season, Farr revealed that work is already underway on a third chapter of the espionage drama, adapted from The Night Manager by John le Carré.
The series follows Jonathan Pine, a former British soldier and luxury hotel night manager who is recruited by an intelligence officer to infiltrate the inner circle of a secretive arms dealer.
The first season, starring Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie, Olivia Colman, Tom Hollander, David Harewood and Elizabeth Debicki, premiered in 2016 and became a major success. The second season of the Prime Video/BBC series debuted in January this year.
Farr said writing the next season is a “huge challenge” but promised fans it would not take as long as the previous gap. He also indicated that the new season would address the dark ending of season two.
He added that ending the second season on a bleak note felt appropriate because “the world is a tough place at the moment,” but said viewers also want justice, redemption and meaningful change, which gives season three a strong emotional and moral purpose.
Hiddleston, who reprises his role as Jonathan Pine, praised le Carré as one of the great writers of the 20th century and said he had long hoped to return to the character.
The actor said Pine’s mix of confidence, charm, pain, solitude, bravery and moral conviction makes him a fascinating role to play. He added that returning to the character after 10 years felt natural because both he and the world have changed with time.

The popularity of the British series also inspired an Indian adaptation, The Night Manager, starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Anil Kapoor.
