Meta is set to expand its smart eyewear portfolio with the launch of two new Ray-Ban AI-powered glasses, expected to debut next week, according to a report by Bloomberg.
Developed in collaboration with EssilorLuxottica, the upcoming models will, for the first time, support prescription lenses targeting users who rely on vision correction. The glasses are likely to be offered in both rectangular and rounded frame designs and distributed through conventional eyewear retail channels.
The devices, internally codenamed “Scriber” and “Blazer,” are not a full generational upgrade but rather an extension of Meta’s existing smart glasses lineup. Their existence had earlier surfaced through filings with the US Federal Communications Commission.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has previously highlighted the massive potential of prescription-enabled smart glasses, noting that billions of people already wear corrective eyewear making it a natural next step for AI integration. He suggested that AI glasses could soon become as ubiquitous as smartphones.
Competition in the space is also heating up. Apple is reportedly preparing to introduce its own smart glasses next year, while OpenAI is said to be exploring AI-driven hardware, potentially including eyewear, following its acquisition of a startup led by designer Jony Ive.

Meanwhile, Meta continues to invest in its broader hardware ecosystem. Reports suggest the company is working on a new smartwatch, codenamed “Malibu 2,” featuring health tracking and an integrated AI assistant. It is also developing multiple augmented and mixed-reality devices, although some projects, including its Phoenix MR glasses, have reportedly been delayed.
Despite ongoing innovation, Meta’s Reality Labs division has faced internal challenges, including recent layoffs, as the company recalibrates its long-term hardware strategy.
