Samsung’s next-generation Ultra flagship may arrive with a major camera redesign if recent leaks are anything to go by. Although the Galaxy S26 Ultra debuted only a few months ago, speculation surrounding its successor, likely to be called the Galaxy S27 Ultra is already gaining momentum online.
According to tipster Ice Universe, Samsung could remove the dedicated 10-megapixel 3x telephoto camera from its upcoming Ultra smartphone. The sensor has been a regular feature in previous Galaxy S Ultra devices, offering 3x optical zoom along with PDAF and OIS support. If the leak proves accurate, it would mark a notable shift in Samsung’s camera strategy for its premium flagship lineup.
While details remain limited, there is no confirmation yet on whether Samsung plans to replace the sensor with a new zoom solution or rely more heavily on its periscope camera system.
The current Galaxy S26 Ultra features a quad rear camera setup led by a 200-megapixel primary sensor. It also includes a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide shooter. For selfies and video calls, the handset houses a 12-megapixel front-facing camera.
Apart from camera-related changes, earlier reports have hinted that Samsung’s upcoming Ultra model may run on a customised Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset from Qualcomm. The processor is expected to deliver noticeable improvements in performance and power efficiency compared to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip powering the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Battery upgrades could also be on the cards. Reports suggest Samsung may adopt silicon-carbon battery technology for the Galaxy S27 Ultra. The move could help the company increase battery capacity without significantly affecting the device’s size and weight. The Galaxy S26 Ultra currently packs a 5,000mAh battery.
Samsung has not officially confirmed any details regarding the rumoured Galaxy S27 Ultra so far.
