A four-year-old boy from Pooh village in Kinnaur has been formally recognised as the ninth incarnation of the revered Buddhist master Yulgial Tulku Rinpoche, drawing thousands of devotees to the region for his Mundan Sanskar ceremony.

The young Tulku arrived at the Shada Vai Buddhist Gompa in Kullu district, where monks performed the traditional head-shaving ritual, marking his entry into monastic life. Devotees from across Kinnaur and neighbouring areas gathered to seek blessings from the new incarnation.

Acharya Roshan Lal of Dechen Choi Khor Mahavihara said the first incarnation of Yulgial Tulku Rinpoche appeared in 1730 in Ladakh’s royal family and later underwent monastic training in Tibet. Over successive births, the spiritual master spread Buddhist teachings across Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, Tibet and Ladakh.

The eighth incarnation lived and taught extensively at the Kinnaur gompa, and the newly recognised ninth incarnation has now been ceremonially inducted at the same monastery.
