Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday attacked the opposition, saying its leaders only criticise the government but failed to take effective steps when they were in power.

Addressing the inaugural session of the "Natural Farming Workshop 2026" in Kanpur, he said Uttar Pradesh would become self-reliant only when people at the local level became prosperous, happy and independent.

"Self-reliance comes through self-dependence, not by depending on others. We have to trust our own resources and make efforts at our own level," he said.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiatives on ethanol, bio-compost, compressed biogas and CNG, the chief minister said the vision was to make farmers and cattle resources a source of energy security.

"When the global energy crisis came, the world was facing difficulties but India stood firmly and faced the challenge. Inflation remained under control in India," he said.

"'Opposition ka kaam hi hai chillana, ye chillate hain aur chillate hi rahenge' (The opposition's job is to shout and it will continue to shout) because it did not do anything when it was in power," Adityanath said.

He said India was moving ahead despite global challenges due to the vision of the prime minister and the contribution of farmers.
