Akhilesh Yadav, chief of the Samajwadi Party, on Thursday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of trying to influence elections in coordination with the Election Commission of India, and said his party is preparing to counter such moves to establish a “PDA government” in Uttar Pradesh.
Addressing a press conference after meeting party workers, Yadav said the organisation remains committed to strengthening its “PDA” (Backwards, Dalits and Minorities) strategy, which he described as central to its vision of social justice.
He said the party is working with determination to form a government in the state based on this framework, adding that their efforts would focus on ensuring inclusive representation and equity.
Yadav claimed that once elections in other states conclude, the BJP will shift its full political machinery towards Uttar Pradesh. He alleged that recent developments in poll-bound states indicate coordination between the ruling party and the Election Commission.
Urging party workers to stay vigilant, he asked them to understand these “strategies” and intensify grassroots outreach to ensure the formation of what he termed a progressive Samajwadi government.
Taking aim at the BJP, Yadav said the promise of “acche din” had not been fulfilled and suggested that public sentiment was shifting against the ruling party.
Referring to administrative changes in West Bengal ahead of elections, he questioned the transfer of senior officials, including top bureaucrats and police officers. He argued that such actions raise concerns about accountability and consistency, especially when similar demands made by his party in Uttar Pradesh in the past were not acted upon.
He further alleged that many officials are dissatisfied due to corruption and pressure within the system, claiming they have not received due recognition or justice despite their work.
On economic issues, Yadav raised concerns about alleged financial irregularities and criticised the government over law and order, linking rising illegal activities in the state to those in power.
He also highlighted farmers’ distress, pointing to rising input costs such as fuel, fertilisers and seeds. He accused the BJP of failing to deliver on its promise to double farmers’ income and said his party would work towards better pricing and compensation mechanisms.
Referring to a recent rally in Dadri, Yadav claimed that the growing public support for his party had unsettled the BJP. He also accused the ruling party of taking credit for development projects initiated during the Samajwadi Party’s tenure, including metro projects.
