Pema Khandu on Friday said the proposed Institute for Transforming Arunachal Pradesh (ITA) is gradually taking shape through active coordination between the state government and NITI Aayog.

Describing the initiative as an important move towards research-driven governance and long-term planning, Khandu said the institute would function as a dedicated policy think tank for the state.

In a post on X, the chief minister said Arunachal Pradesh has long felt the need for a specialised institution capable of offering strategic guidance and formulating evidence-based policies suited to the state’s distinct geographical, cultural and economic conditions.

He said the proposed body would help create long-term development frameworks while addressing region-specific challenges and opportunities.

Khandu also thanked Joram Aniya, Nidhi Chhibber and other officials associated with the initiative for supporting Arunachal Pradesh’s development agenda.

Officials said the Institute for Transforming Arunachal Pradesh is expected to work as a specialised policy and research organisation that will assist the government in preparing data-based policies, tracking developmental progress, improving governance systems and designing sustainable growth models.

The proposed institute is also likely to support planning in sectors such as infrastructure, border area development, tourism, entrepreneurship, hydropower and sustainable economic expansion.

In recent years, Arunachal Pradesh has increased focus on strengthening connectivity, boosting local enterprise and promoting youth-centric development initiatives.

The state government has been collaborating with NITI Aayog on several programmes, including aspirational district projects, innovation-driven initiatives and schemes aimed at youth empowerment.
