Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has announced the formation of a high-powered committee aimed at transforming judicial infrastructure across the country, with a focus on modernising court facilities and securing greater financial support from the government.
The Chief Justice has constituted the Judicial Infrastructure Advisory Committee, which will prepare a comprehensive roadmap to address infrastructure gaps in courts and create a more uniform and efficient judicial ecosystem across India.
The panel will be headed by Aravind Kumar. Its members will also include Justice Debangsu Basak, Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra, and Justice Somasekhar Sundaresan.
According to a statement issued by the Supreme Court of India, the committee has been established keeping in mind the diverse infrastructure requirements of various high courts and district courts across the country. The objective is to create a unified infrastructure framework capable of meeting judicial needs on a pan-India basis.
The committee will submit its recommendations to the Chief Justice, who will subsequently take up the matter with the Government of India as well as state governments for policy support and allocation of funds.
Apart from judicial members, the Director General of the Central Public Works Department and the Secretary General of the Supreme Court will also be part of the advisory body.
The panel is expected to examine seven major areas of concern, including identifying long-standing systemic bottlenecks, upgrading facilities for litigants and members of the legal fraternity, and introducing advanced technological solutions to improve efficiency and speed up case disposal.

A major focus will also be on strengthening the e-courts initiative, narrowing the digital divide within the justice delivery system, and developing modern court complexes equipped to meet the demands of a 21st-century judiciary.
